The Zimmer Evolution
In 2004, Shewekar El Gharably and Hend El Kahhal joined forces to showcase their exclusive furniture and rug range. With an interior design background, Shewekar wanted to introduce contemporary and transitional furniture to Egypt. Hend, on the other hand, comes from a well-established carpet manufacturing family and was eager to utilize her experience working in the family business, to develop a more modern and contemporary line of rugs for the Egyptian market. In 2005 zimmer showroom was born, fusing together furniture and rugs. The two other partners; Yasmine El Gharablyand Mohamed El Kahhal were involved in the business since the company’s beginnings. Mohamed was key in helping Hend put together the concept for the contemporary rug line in 2004. Yasmine was also involved from the outset, albeit in a more silent capacity. Today, each specialise in a key aspect of the business. Yasmine is primarily involved in the day-to-day operations of the business, including marketing, business development and management, while Mohamed focuses on zimmer rugs manufacturing and logistics.
During the next 3 years the partners added several exclusive furniture, lighting and accessories brands and invested in further developing their innovative rug designs. In 2008, the team ventured into furniture procurement for commercial projects. Some key projects zimmer has been involved in include the Clubhouse at the City View compound in suburban Cairo and Emaar’s Marassi Clubhouse on the North Coast of Egypt. In June 2010, zimmer is expected to open a showroom in Designopolis, a design emporium in Cairo.
